Allstate Save of the Game: Donis Escober, Olimpia (3rd penalty)
Is the ability to save a penalty learned or luck? In the 2017 Scotiabank CONCACAF final, second leg on Thursday, the reasons why didn’t really matter to Olimpia goalkeeper Donis Escober. His Leones captured the inaugural title at the Estadio Nacional in San Jose, Costa Rica, thanks in large part to his efforts. After Santos de Guapiles won the first leg, 1-0, on the road, Olimpia’s Michael Chirinos struck for the finale’s only goal in the first half to level the aggregate score at 1-1. In order to determine the champion, matters were eventually settled from the penalty spot. Escober made diving stop to thwart Michael Barquero on Santos’ third kick from the spot as Olimpia eventually prevailed 3-1 to seal a place in next year’s Scotiabank CONCACAF Champions League. Congratulations to Escober for making the Allstate Save of the Game.
