SAN SALVADOR, El Salvador – El Salvador’s Alianza flexed its scoring muscles with a 5-1 victory over San Francisco FC of Panama in the first leg of the 2019 Scotiabank Concacaf League Preliminary Round on Thursday night at the Estadio Cuscatlan in San Salvador, El Salvador.

It was a dream start for Alianza, as it took a 1-0 lead in the 15’ when a soaring Jonathan Jimenez scissor-kicked Cristian Olivera’s cross into goal.

The momentum was with the Cuscatleco club and they took full advantage by adding a second score in the 25’ through Raul Penaranda, who pounced on the rebound of his initial shot to extend the lead to 2-0.

The road back for San Francisco then grew longer in the 35’ when DF Wesley Cabrera redirected Olivera’s cross into his own net to hand Alianza a 3-0 lead.

Cabrera would redeem himself though seven minutes later in the 42’ by nudging in a header off a corner kick to cut the Alianza lead down to 3-1.

Yet the night belonged to Alianza and team captain Marvin Monterroza and Herlbert Soto capped things off with strikes in the 75’ and 82’, respectively, for the 5-1 final scoreline.
