KINGSTON, Jamaica – Arabe Unido FW Blas Perez knows that the heavy lifting is only just starting for the Panamanian side in the 2018 Scotiabank CONCACAF League.
The Expreso Azul clinched a spot in the quarterfinals with a 4-2 aggregate win over Arnett Gardens of Jamaica, despite falling 2-1 in Thursday night’s Round of 16 second leg at the National Stadium in Kingston, Jamaica.
While the Canaleros were happy with advancing, they know improvements must be made prior to their quarterfinal meeting with CD FAS of El Salvador.
“The most important thing for us was qualifying for the next round,” said Perez in an exclusive interview with CONCACAF following the match.
“But in the next round it will be more difficult. We are happy for qualifying but not happy with the result,” added Perez.
Even though Arabe Unido owned a 3-0 advantage heading into Thursday’s contest, the margins always felt razor thin for the visitors, as Arnett Gardens continuously looked to attack Arabe Unido.
It was just the type of affair that Perez believes will benefit Arabe Unido as it prepares for its two legs against FAS.
“It’s hard when you play against Caribbean teams. It’s always a tough game, they play hard, but we need to work for the next round,” concluded Perez.
