PANAMA CITY, Panama -- Arabe Unido completed Group D play in the 2016/17 Scotiabank CONCACAF Champions League with a perfect record, earning a 2-0 win over visiting Don Bosco on Tuesday at the Estadio Maracana.

Midfielder Jose Gonzalez scored both goals, equaling Orlando Rodriguez’s all-time SCCL team record with eight and extending his scoring streak to four games.

The Expreso Azul is guaranteed either the second or third seed in the quarterfinals, with Pachuca in a position to overtake the Vancouver Whitecaps at the top of the group-winners’ table if it can beat host Olimpia on Wednesday.

Arabe Unido got on the scoreboard in the 11th minute, when Gonzalez lobbed into an open net from the right side of the penalty area after Don Bosco goalkeeper James Elan mis-kicked a backpass.

The 2015 Panamanian Apertura champion continued to enjoy the better of play and almost scored a second, but Elan made a diving save off of Edgar Yoel Barcenas’ left-footed effort from distance.

While the Haitian visitor, which finished its participation in the tournament without a point, looked more dynamic in the opening minutes of the second half, additional miscues led to half chances for Arabe.

In the 86th minute, Elan blocked a shot from point-blank range by Gabriel Pino to keep his side in the match.

Gonzalez, though, netted an insurance goal in the second minute of stoppage, taking a pass in the left side of the box from Gabriel Chiari and eluding Elan to make it 2-0.
