MONTERREY, Mexico – Monterrey announced Wednesday that it has reached an agreement with Italian Serie A side Fiorentina for Jose Basanta to remain with the Liga MX runner-up for the upcoming campaign.
Although some administrative issues remain to be finalized, the defender will join the Rayados’ preseason camp immediately.
Basanta played for Monterrey from 2008-2014, before he was transferred to Fiorentina in July 2014. The 32-year-old appeared in 24 games during the 2014/15 domestic season for the Viola, but was loaned back to Monterrey for 2015/16.
Monterrey will commence pursuit of a fourth Scotiabank CONCACAF Champions title, when it opens play in the 2016/17 edition at Haiti’s Don Bosco FC on August 3.
