BELMOPAN, Belize – Robinson Da Silva scored the lone goal to earn visiting Walter Ferretti a 1-0 win over the Belmopan Bandits in a Scotiabank CONCACAF League Round of 16, second-leg encounter at Isidoro Beaton Stadium on Thursday night.
Walter Ferretti advanced to the quarterfinals, 5-1 on aggregate, and will face Panama’s Plaza Amador, which needed penalties to get past Portmore United on Wednesday.
Da Silva scored the all-important away goal in the 12th minute, when he headed home from six-yards out following a perfect free kick by Jose Bernardo Laureiro.
Georgie Welcome nearly leveled for the Bandits four minutes later, but his right-footed effort from 22 yards sailed just over the crossbar.
Darwin Martinez also had a quality chance for the host in the 24th minute, only for Walter Ferretti goalkeeper Denis Espinoza to dive right for the save.
In the second minute, Cristiam Gutierrez produced the Nicaraguan visitor’s first scoring chance, when he latched onto a free kick. His flicked header, however, glanced off and over the crossbar.
The Bandits pressed for an equalizer as Welcome had a pair of shots blocked in the 62nd minute. Twelve minutes later, the Honduran headed just wide of the far post.
Quarterfinal dates and venues have not yet been announced.
