TEGUCIGALPA, Honduras. - The SCL 2017 is not a good memory for Belmopan Bandits who are looking for a revenge in 2018. The Belize team arrived on Sunday to Tegucigalpa motived and confident to gain a good result against FC Motagua in the first leg of the round of 16.

In the SCL 2017, Belmopan Bandits suffered two losses against Nicaragua´s Walter Ferretti (1-4 away) and 0-1 at home. The only goal in the series was scored for the former Honduras international in the 2010 FIFA World Cup Georgie Welcome; curiosity, Welcome played for Motagua 79 games and scored 27 goals in two stints with Las Aguilas Azules.

Welcome, such as Rony Martinez, Kevin Guevara, and Darwin Bermudez, are the four Honduras players with Belmopan Bandits who want to make history on Tuesday night at Estadio Nacional in Tegucigalpa.

“We know Motagua very well. We know it’s a strong team, it will be a tough game, but we are here to fight until the end and get a good result”, said Welcome to the media on Sunday.

The current Belize Premier League Champions, Bandits, contraries to his rival, did not play during the weekend. Belmopan Bandits’ last official game was on July 22, when they defeated 5-2 Belize´s Defence Force where Welcome and Martinez scored in the effort to win.

For Welcome (33), playing against his former team, it will an extra motivation, especially at the venue where he celebrated many goals, but the problem -according to Welcome- will be for Motagua’s defense.

“I always play motivated. I enjoy every game, this will be special because it is against Motagua, but I´m wearing the Belmopan T-Shirt and we want to advance for the first time ever to the second round and I think we can make it we are concentrate in the game”.

Motagua, played last year in the round of 16 of the 2018 Scotiabank Concacaf League against Club Tijuana and lost the series 1-2 in the aggregate and recently was eliminated in the Honduras’ Copa Presidente for an amateur Team Las Delicias of Olancho; for Welcome, the pressure is for his former team.

“We are the underdog team,” says Welcome, adding “but a Cinderella team always surges in tournaments like this, and don’t be surprised if Belmopan Bandits gives another surprise to Motagua”, he concluded.
