PORT OF SPAIN, Trinidad & Tobago -- Second-half substitute Enrico Small snapped a stalemate and boosted Arabe Unido to a 2-1 road victory over Central FC in the first leg of their 2017 Scotiabank CONCACAF League Round of 16 series on a rainy Thursday night at Hasely Crawford Stadium.
Only a minute after replacing Renan Addles, Small ran onto a Nelson Barahona through ball, drilling a 15-yard shot off the crossbar and into the net past goalkeeper Stephon Seepersad in the 62nd minute for the game-winner.
Central FC drew first blood in the 20th minute. Kaydion Gabriel sent a precise cross from the right flank to Johan Peltier, who headed it past goalkeeper Miguel Lloyd.
The visitor equalized in the 39th minute, when Carlos Small took advantage of a poorly timed jump by Gabriel and, from five yards, knocked home a left-wing cross by Addles.
Two minutes into the second half, Seepersad had his big moment, diving to his left to deny Jose Gonzalez's penalty kick.
Central FC nearly leveled in the 89th minute as Nathaniel Garcia’s long free kick was deflected by a defender, only for Ross Dowden to fire the rebound wide left.
Arabe Unido will host Central FC in the second leg on Thursday, August 10.
