GUATEMALA CITY, Guatemala – A pair of experienced teams in Concacaf action will lock horns when Guatemala’s Comunicaciones welcomes in Honduran side Marathon in the first leg of the 2019 Scotiabank Concacaf League Preliminary Round on Thursday night at the Estadio Doroteo Guamuch Flores in Guatemala City.
Comunicaciones, who has appeared in five editions of the Scotiabank Concacaf Champions League, will be making its SCL debut against a Marathon side that has played in five SCCLs.
Los Cremas were quite busy during the summer in bolstering their squad for both the SCL and the Guatemalan Apertura.
Among the new arrivals to Comunicaciones are Mexican attacker Agustin Herrera, veteran MF Jose Contreras and Panamanian GK Jose Calderon.
Marathon was equally as busy, bringing in attacking midfielder and Honduras international Mario Martinez, who scored in the club’s opening match of the Honduran Apertura, a 2-0 win over Real Minas.
Joining Martinez on the scoresheet was veteran FW Carlo Costly, who is no stranger to the SCL having won the inaugural edition in 2017 with CD Olimpia.
With so much experience on the field, Thursday night’s affair should make for a Concacaf classic.
