MONTERREY MARCHES ON

First-place Monterrey (10W-3D-1L, 33 points) became the first team to reach the 10-win mark in the 2017 Liga MX Apertura with a 2-0 win over now fifth-place Club America (8-2-5, 26) on Saturday.  Neri Cardozo (27’) and Aviles Hurtado (45’+2 pen) scored for the Rayados, who improved to 7-0-0 at home.

BOSELLI NETS TWICE IN LEON WIN

Mauro Boselli took his 2017 Liga MX Apertura-leading goal haul to 11 in Leon’s 6-2 win over visiting Veracruz,  The 32-year-old forward (15’, 61’) converted twice from the penalty spot, while teammate Elias Hernandez (69’, 78’).  Leon (8-2-5, 26) now sits fourth in the table, two points behind second-place Tigres.

ATLETICO VERAGUENSE ENDS ARABE UNIDO UNBEATEN STREAK

Arabe Unido’s 16-game unbeaten streak to start the 2017 Panamanian Apertura season was snapped Saturday in a 2-1 loss to host Atletico Veragüense (7-4-6, 25, GD-3).  With the loss, the Expreso Azul (8-8-1, 32, GD+13) dropped from first to third place, after now table-topping Tauro (9-6-2, 33) and second-place Plaza Amador (9-6-2, 33, GD+11), defeated San Francisco (4-2) and CA Independiente (2-0), respectively.  Carlos Gallego (19’) and Ronni Villarreal (32’) scored for Veragüense, which is battling Chorrillo FC (6-7-4, 25, GD+4) for the last playoff spot.

TABLE-TOPPERS ALIANZA, MOTAGUA DISPUTE SCORELESS DRAWS

Alianza (10-7-0, 37) and Motagua (7-6-1, 27) – the first-place sides in El Salvador and Honduras – both played to scoreless draws over the weekend.  Alianza were blanked by visiting Luis Angel Firpo, while Motagua played newly-crowned Scotiabank CONCACAF League champion Olimpia to a goalless stalemate at the Estadio Tiburcio Carias Andino.

SANTOS DE GUAPILES ON TARGET

If Santos de Guapiles was feeling any lingering effects from the setback on penalty kicks to Olimpia in the 2017 Scotiabank CONCACAF League final, they weren’t noticeable in Sunday’s 5-0 win over visiting Grecia in the Costa Rican Invierno.  Edder Solorzano (34’, 51’) led the way with two goals, while 21-year-old defender Youstin Salas (19’) – a member of the SCL’s Best XI – netted the opener.  Cristhian Lagos (60’) and Sterling Matarrita (69’) also found the back of the net.

HEREDIANO MOTORS ON

On Saturday, first-place Herediano (13-4-0, 43) remained unbeaten in the 2017 Costa Rican Invierno, earning a 3-0 win over visiting Cartagines.  The Florenses posted a second straight shout and have conceded a league-low nine goals, 11 fewer than its nearest competitor.

MEXICO STARS SCORE IN EUROPE

On Sunday, in the Netherlands, Hector Lozano (18’, 59’) netted twice in PSV Eindhoven’s 4-2 win over host Vitesse and is the Eredivisie’s top scorer with nine goals.  Javier Hernandez made it four goals in 10 English Premier League games for West Ham United, scoring in the 31st minute of Saturday’s 2-2 draw with host Crystal Palace.
