HAMILTON, Ontario – First-year club Forge FC of Canada will seek to continue its 2019 Scotiabank Concacaf League journey when it duels with Honduran giant Olimpia in the first leg of their Round of 16 series on Thursday night at Tim Hortons Field in Hamilton, Ontario.
Despite being a new club and making its first ever appearance in a Concacaf club competition, Forge FC has acquitted itself well and earned a 2-1 aggregate victory over Guatemala’s Antigua GFC in the Preliminary Round thanks to scores from Mathieu David Choiniere and Daniel Krutzen.
The level of competition now goes up another notch against one of the region’s most decorated clubs in Olimpia.
The Catrachos have 39 domestic titles to their name and have appeared in 10 editions of the Scotiabank Concacaf Champions League, the last coming in 2018 by virtue of winning the inaugural SCL in 2017.
Boasting former MLS players like MF Cristian Maidana and FW Jerry Bengtson, Olimpia will present a stiff challenge for a Forge FC side looking show the rest of the region that Canadian football is on the rise.
