TEGUCIGALPA, Honduras – Juan Pablo Montes scored the second of his two goals in the fifth minute of second half stoppage time to give Motagua a 3-2 victory over Portmore United in the first leg of their 2018 Scotiabank Concacaf League quarterfinal on Thursday night at the Estadio Tiburcio Carias Andino in Tegucigalpa, Honduras.
The Honduran side was quick out of the gates thanks to Montes’s sixth minute strike that glanced off a Portmore United defender and in for a 1-0 lead.
The hosts were hungry for more and Rubilio Castillo obliged, finishing a chance to make it 2-0 in the 24’ after his initial header had been saved.
The Jamaicans mounted a second half charge and pulled level through goals from Ricardo Morris in the 67’ and Javon East in the 81’
However, Montes would have the last say as he soared to the back past and nodded home a header off a free kick to give Motagua the 3-2 win.
The two teams will meet again in the second leg next Thursday in Kingston, Jamaica.
