GUATEMALA CITY, Guatemala – A top performance from GK Harold Fonseca helped Honduran club Olimpia secure a 0-0 draw with Comunicaciones of Guatemala on Thursday night in the second leg of the 2019 Scotiabank Concacaf League quarterfinals at the Estadio Doroteo Guamuch Flores in Guatemala City, Guatemala.
With the result, Olimpia earned a 2-0 victory on aggregate over Comunicaciones and have also clinched a berth in the 2020 Scotiabank Concacaf Champions League.
The first 45 minutes was controlled by Comunicaciones, as the Chapines tried any and all methods to score, however visiting GK Harold Fonseca was on top of his game and registered some excellent saves to keep it a 0-0 affair.
The goalkeeping was just as good at the other end with Comunicaciones stopper Jose Calderon showing his wares with a superb save from a Jorge Begunche effort in the 52’.
Fonseca was called into action again in the 77’ when it looked like Maximiliano Lombardi’s shot was goalbound, but the Olimpia backstop stretched to his right to make the save.
In the end, Comunicaciones never found a way past Fonseca, paving the way for Olimpia’s 11th SCCL qualification.
