SAN PEDRO SULA, Honduras – Motagua of Honduras are through to the semifinals of the 2019 Scotiabank Concacaf League after a 0-0 draw with Jamaican side Waterhouse in their 2019 SCL quarterfinal second leg on Wednesday night at the Estadio Olimpico Metropolitano in San Pedro Sula, Honduras.
Waterhouse started strong and Andre Fletcher nearly hauled a goal back on aggregate midway through the half, but flashed a shot wide.
Motagua started to find their footing and forced Waterhouse GK Akeen Chambers into a big save in the first half to keep things scoreless.
The goalkeeping was just as good at the other end, as Motagua stopper Jonathan Rougier made a sensational stop of a Kendroy Howell shot to open the second half.
Waterhouse’s task got a lot taller in the 57’ when Tramaine Stewart was sent off with his second yellow card of the night, reducing the visitors to 10 men.
After Kevin Lopez struck the crossbar with a shot, Matias Galvaliz looked set to score the game’s lone goal, only for Chambers to make another top save.
In the end, the night would belong to the goalkeepers, which suited Motagua just fine as the result sealed their spot in the 2020 Scotiabank Concacaf Champions League.
