SAN PEDRO SULA, Honduras – Motagua of Honduras overcame a nervy start to earn a 1-1 draw with Managua of Nicaragua in the second leg of the 2019 Scotiabank Concacaf League Round of 16 on Tuesday night at the Estadio Olimpico Metropolitano in San Pedro Sula, Honduras.
The result handed the Catracho club a 3-2 victory on aggregate against a Managua side that battled until the final whistle.
Managua needed a quick start and it got just that as Nehum Peralta scored in the 16’ to make it 1-0 in the match and 2-2 on aggregate thanks to a sizzling effort from long-range that rippled the Motagua net.
After a near-miss via a Marco Tulio Vega header in the 27’, Motagua pulled level in the match 1-1 through a Roberto Moreira penalty conversion.
Motagua was keen to add to its aggregate lead and a buzzing volley from distance by Reinieri Mayorquin came close to doing that just after the hour mark.
In the end, a second goal for Motagua was not necessary as it nailed down the result to punch its ticket to the SCL quarterfinals.
