SAN PEDRO SULA, Honduras – Both Motagua of Honduras and El Salvador’s Alianza will take aim at the 2019 Scotiabank Concacaf League Final when the two sides meet in the 2019 SCL semifinal second leg on Thursday night at the Estadio Olimpico Metropolitano in San Pedro Sula, Honduras.
The two sides played to an entertaining 1-1 draw in the first leg last week in San Salvador, with Juan Pablo Montes’s early away goal giving Motagua the slight edge heading into Thursday’s encounter.
No doubt that is a series in which the stars have come out. Motagua’s Montes added to his legendary status in the SCL with a goal to give him four career SCL goals, just one shy of the club’s all-time SCL scoring mark.
Meanwhile, Raul Penaranda has been tremendous for Alianza in the 2019 SCL, hacing scored in the first leg of every round dating back to the Preliminary Round. The Colombian FW will now seek his first second leg goal on Motagua’s home turf.
Thursday’s match marks the fourth all-time meeting between the two sides and could potentially yield a first ever win by either side, as all previous three matches ended in a 1-1 draw.
