SAN PEDRO SULA, Honduras – For the second straight year, Motagua of Honduras have reached the Final of the Scotiabank Concacaf League after topping Alianza of El Salvador 3-0 in the second leg of their 2019 SCL semifinal on Thursday night at the Estadio Olimpico Metropolitano in San Pedro Sula, Honduras.
With the result, Motagua defeated Alianza 4-1 on aggregate to secure their spot in the Final.
Motagua came flying out of the gates and Matias Galvaliz nearly gave the hosts an early lead in the 6’, only to see his well-struck shot smack off the post.
Twelve minutes later, Alianza GK Rafael Garcia had to come to the rescue of the Cuscatleco club with a soaring save to keep it scoreless.
The 1-0 breakthrough finally came in the 31’ courtesy of Marco Tulio Vega, who collected a pass on the right edge and send an excellent right-footed finish into goal.
Five minutes later in the 36’ it was 2-0 to Motagua when a Juan Pablo Montes header off a corner kick found the back of the net.
Alianza looked to battle back in the second half, but Motagua had other ideas and Marcelo Estigarribia’s goal in the 89’ completed the 3-0 scoreline.
