TEGUCIGALPA, Honduras– Motagua FC of Honduras will be seeking to overturn a 1-0 deficit on aggregate when they clash with Costa Rican club Deportivo Saprissa in the second leg of the 2019 Scotiabank Concacaf League Final on Monday night at the Estadio Tiburcio Carias Andino in Tegucigalpa, Honduras.
Johan Venegas, the all-time leading scorer in SCL history, scored his seventh goal of the 2019 SCL to earn the Ticos the advantage, however Motagua will certainly fancy their chances in Tuesday’s return leg.
Led by MF Matias Galvaliz, who ranks at the top of the assists list in the 2019 SCL with three, Motagua have won their last four matches at the Estadio Nacional.
The Catracho club also kept a clean sheet in their last two home matches in the SCL and will be in search of a similar outcome against Saprissa.
As for the Costa Ricans, history is on their side. In the 16 previous meetings between the two clubs, Saprissa has won 10, tied five and lost just once. That lone defeat came in the final of the Torneo de Clubes UNCAF 2007.
Fellow Costa Rican club Herediano earned a result at Motagua in the second leg of the 2018 SCL to win the crown, a feat that Saprissa hope to repeat on Tuesday night.
