HARRISON, New Jersey – The New York Red Bulls announced Saturday the acquisition of Panama international Michael Murillo on a year-long loan from Liga Panameña de Fútbol side San Francisco FC.
The 21-year-old defender made his Panama debut in a 1-0 loss at Nicaragua in an international friendly on March 15, 2016. He has gone on to earn nine caps and score one goal.
In January, Murillo played in four of five games – all starts -- during Panama’s run to a runner-up finish in the 2017 Copa Centroamericana.
“Michael is a player that we identified with our scouting network and have watched closely,” said Red Bulls head coach Jesse Marsch. “He fits the way we want to play and will be a good addition to our group.”
Murillo, who made three appearances for San Francisco in the 2015/16 Scotiabank CONCACAF Champions League, is eligible to play for the Red Bulls in their 2017/18 SCCL quarterfinal series with the Vancouver Whitecaps that begins on February 22.
