SAN PEDRO SULA, Honduras – Honduran side Olimpia’s attack kicked into gear with a 4-1 win over Forge FC in the second leg of their 2019 Scotiabank Concacaf League Round of 16 series on Thursday night at the Estadio Olimpico Metropolitano.
The victory earned the hosts a 4-2 victory on aggregate and a spot in the 2019 SCL quarterfinals.
In need of a goal to even the tie, Olimpia came out the more aggressive of the two and was rewarded in the 30’ when a surging header from Jonathan Ferrari found the back of the net for a 1-0 Olimpia lead.
The hosts were feeling confident and that extended to the right foot of Deybi Flores, who rocketed in a shot from distance to double Olimpia’s advantage to 2-0 in the 43’.
Forge looked to a respond, but the Catracho club would seal its passage to the next round when a Jerry Bengtson cross from the left was headed in by Junior Lacayo in the 75’ to make it 3-0, followed by a Bengtson tap-in for a 4-0 lead.
Forge would get a late score from David Choiniere to cut the deficit to 4-1, but it was not enough to overcome Olimpia’s strong offensive performance.
