TEGUCIGALPA, Honduras – Olimpia of Honduras flexed their scoring muscles with a 6-0 victory over Nicaragua’s Managua FC in the Round of 16 of the 2020 Scotiabank Concacaf League on Thursday night at the Estadio Nacional in Tegucigalpa, Honduras.
The 2017 SCL champions showed why they are the top-scoring side in SCL history by pouring in six goals through six different players to punch their ticket to the quarterfinals where they will take on fellow Honduran club Motagua.
Olimpia got to work early and jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the 8’ when Elvin Casildo headed in a cross from Deybi Flores.
Nine minutes later in the 17’ it was Michaell Chirinos doubling the Olimpia lead to 2-0 when he received a cross from Edwin Rodriguez and swept in a right-footed shot for the goal.
Olimpia remained in control at the start of the second half and Yustin Arboleda stretched the home side’s lead to 3-0 in the 51’ with a solid finish after Flores had done well to keep the ball alive before crossing to Arboleda.
Rodriguez got into the scoring act in the 62’ to make it 4-0 to Olimpia, collecting a Chirinos pass and finishing.
Veteran striker Jerry Bengtson added his name to the scoresheet in the 64’ by spinning in a header, giving the Catrachos a 5-0 advantage.
Marvin Bernardez then rounded out the prolific night for the hosts with a right-footed finish in the 82’ to complete the 6-0 scoreline.
