KANSAS CITY, Kansas – Mexican champion Pachuca and Santos played to a 1-1 draw in a preseason friendly on Tuesday night at Children’s Mercy Park.
The sides were also pitted against each other in last month’s Liga MX Clausura quarterfinals, a series won by Pachuca, 3-2 on aggregate.
Erick Sanchez, only 16-years-old, gave Pachuca a 1-0 lead in the 33rd minute, when he controlled a pass with a touch into the left side of the penalty box and then calmly fired a right-footed shot into the far-side netting from 10-yards out.
Before the break, Santos leveled through Kristian Alvarez, who beat goalkeeper Alfonso Blanco shortly after the custodian stretched fully to deny Diego De Buen.
Santos created solid scoring chances in the second half, but efforts by Bryan Rabello and Emilano Armenteros were thwarted by Blanco.
Pachuca, which will compete in this year’s Scotiabank CONCACAF Champions League (SCCL) in Group E against Police United and Olimpia, returns to action on June 26 in another friendly at Indy Eleven.
The Tuzos have captured four CONCACAF club championships, including the 2009/10 SCCL.
