PANAMA CITY, Panama– Arabe Unido of Panama will be seeking a comeback from a 2-0 deficit against Herediano of Costa Rica when the two teams meet in their 2018 Scotiabank Concacaf League semifinal second leg on Thursday night at the Estadio Rommel Fernandez in Panama City, Panama.
A year ago, the Canalero side failed to advance from the SCL semifinal stage, losing to Santos de Guapiles of Costa Rica 1-0 on aggregate. However, an opportunity for redemption is presented on Thursday.
Arabe Unido will certainly take comfort playing on home soil. In its two home SCL matches, the Expreso Azul earned a 3-0 win over Arnett Gardens and a 3-1 triumph against CD FAS.
Another auspicious sign for Arabe Unido fans is that the club snapped an eight-match winless streak in Panamanian league play on Sunday in a 1-0 win over Alianza, giving it a confidence boost for Thursday’s showdown.
For Herediano, all that is needed to reach a first ever Concacaf final is a victory, draw or a one-goal defeat.
The Tico outfit is led by FW Yendrick Ruiz, who has scored five goals thus far in the SCL, including a pair of goals in last week’s 2-0 first leg win.
Herediano has also shown its ability to find the back of the net when playing away in the SCL. In the Round of 16 the club fell narrowly to Santa Tecla, 2-1, before registering an impressive 2-1 win away to Universitario of Panama.
