BELMOPAN, Belize – The Belmopan Bandits of Belize will be seeking a strong start to its 2019 Scotiabank Concacaf League Preliminary Round series against Costa Rican giants Deportivo Saprissa on Wednesday night at the Isidoro Beaton Stadium in Belmopan, Belize.
Belmopan Bandits is the only club to have qualified for every edition of the SCL and will be looking to each the next round of the competition for the first time after previous first round defeats to Walter Ferretti of Nicaragua in 2017 and Motagua of Honduras in 2018.
Standing in Bandits’ way is one of the most successful clubs in Concacaf history.
Three-time Concacaf champions Saprissa will be eager to reach a ninth Scotiabank Concacaf Champions League, and the journey for the Monstruo Morado begins in Belize.
Led by Head Coach Walter Centeno, Saprissa boasts some of the region’s most experienced players in Concacaf club competition, including MF Marvin Angulo, who has 24 career SCCL appearances.
Meanwhile, youngsters like 17-year-old FW Manfred Ugalde and 22-year-old MF Randall Leal have Saprissa fans believing that the future is bright.
