SAN SALVADOR, El Salvador – One of the most intriguing 2019 Scotiabank Concacaf League Round of 16 series is set to begin on Thursday as Alianza of El Salvador hosts Panama’s Tauro in the first leg at the Estadio Cuscatlan in San Salvador, El Salvador in a battle of two teams with prior SCL experience.
The hosts arrive into the affair brimming with confidence after a commanding 6-1 win over San Francisco of Panama in the Preliminary Round and are one step away from their first SCL quarterfinal since the inaugural 2017 edition.
Against San Francisco, Los Albos were led by the likes of Jonathan Jimenez, Raul Penaranda and Oscar Ceren, who all found the back of the net over the two legs.
That trio will be looking for similar success against another Canalero club in Tauro that has its fair share of SCL history.
The Panamanian side reached the semifinals of the 2018 SCL before narrowly being eliminated by Motagua of Honduras 3-2.
Shouldering the scoring load for Tauro will be Enrico Small, who has scored all four of Tauro’s goals thus far this season in the Panamanian Apertura.
