PARAMARIBO, Suriname– A new era begins for one of Concacaf’s most decorated clubs as Robinhood of Suriname hosts AS Capoise of Haiti in the first leg of their 2019 Scotiabank Concacaf League Preliminary Round series on Wednesday night at the Andre Kamperveen Stadion in Paramaribo, Suriname.
Robinhood, who finished as the runner-up five times in the Concacaf Champions Cup, earned a spot in the 2019 SCL by virtue of winning the 2019 Concacaf Caribbean Club Shield and then defeating Haiti’s Real Hope in a penalty shootout in the 2019 Concacaf League playoff.
A year after Club Franciscain of Martinique narrowly was eliminated in the first round of the 2018 SCL, Robinhood will be seeking to make history by becoming the first amateur club to advance in the SCL.
It will not be an easy feat against an AS Capoise side that was very impressive in the 2019 Concacaf Caribbean Club Championship, which included a ferocious second half comeback from two goals down against Jamaican side Waterhouse to earn a 2-2 draw.
The Haitian outfit finished in third place and was led by Frantz Moise, who finished as the tournament’s joint top-scorer with three goals.
