MEXICO CITY – Pumas midfielder Jesus Gallardo plans to capitalize on an invitation to join Mexico for an upcoming international friendly.

The 22-year-old has enjoyed a brilliant beginning to 2017, starting in all four Liga MX Clausura matches and netting the game-winning goal in a 1-0 triumph over Leon on January 22.

The notable performances attracted the attention of Tricolor manager Juan Carlos Osorio, who named Gallardo to his 23-man roster for next Wednesday’s international friendly against Iceland in Las Vegas, Nevada, USA.

“I am very happy and thankful for the chance,” said Gallardo, who has two goals and four assists in 2016/17 Scotiabank CONCACAF Champions League play. “I want to make the most of it in order to play my best football. I should continue to work with the same humility, so that more call-ups come.”

The two-time capped Gallardo will have an additional opportunity for international competition later in the month. Pumas resumes SCCL play on February 22, but its quarterfinal will have a distinctly domestic flavor as current Mexican champion Tigres provides the opposition.
