PARAMARIBO, Suriname – SV Robinhood’s 2019 Scotiabank Concacaf League fairy tale will add a new chapter on Tuesday night when the Suriname club hosts Club Atletico Independiente of Panama in the first leg of the Round of 16 at the Andre Kamperveen Stadion in Paramaribo, Suriname.
Robinhood’s run to the 2019 SCL Round of 16 has been nothing short of remarkable.
It started last spring when the club claimed the 2019 Concacaf Caribbean Club Shield, which was then followed by a penalty shootout win over Real Haiti in the Concacaf League playoff.
Another Haitian club was the next team to fall to Robinhood, as a late Alan Cirilo Da Costa goal earned Robinhood a 1-1 win on aggregate with the away goal against AS Capoise.
Robinhood’s run has evoked memories of the club’s achievement of reaching five Concacaf Champions Cup finals in a span of 11 years during the 1970s and 1980s, and now the current group will take aim at an Independiente side well-acquainted with recent Concacaf play.
The Canalero club sent shockwaves through the region in the 2019 Scotiabank Concacaf Champions League when it eliminated 2018 SCCL finalists Toronto FC 5-1.
With the likes of Jorman Aguilar, who scored eight goals during the 2019 Clausura, in the fold, Independiente stands to be Robinhood’s tallest challenge yet.
