SAN JOSE, Costa Rica – Fabrizio Ronchetti has launched his Saprissa career brightly and he couldn’t be happier with the initial returns.
On Saturday, the 32-time Costa Rican champion earned a 3-2 win over host Municipal Liberia, with the Uruguayan forward netting off a header. His goal, which leveled the score at 1-1, provided a glimpse of what could be expected in a season that consists of domestic and Scotiabank CONCACAF Champions League duties.
“It is very important to debut with a goal…for one’s confidence, for the teammates and for the coaching staff,” said Ronchetti, who spent the previous 18 months with Cartagines. “It is always best when one feels useful to the team. That is the best reward for any player.”
Saprissa returns to action on July 10, when it hosts Argentine club San Lorenzo; just six days prior to the 2016 Costa Rican Invierno opener against visiting San Carlos. Ronchetti hopes that his transition continues to be eased by goals as he becomes more accustomed to his new surroundings and colleagues.
“They made it easy for me. They are good people and it is a very healthy locker room,” the 31-year-old finished. “With some, I already had a relationship and I find myself with good people. It is a young team that has won a lot and one comes to contribute a little more and add experience for the team both on and off the pitch.”
Saprissa will host El Salvador’s Dragon on August 18 to kick off its 2016/17 SCCL campaign.
