PANAMA CITY, Panama – San Francisco FC of Panama is primed and ready for the start of the 2019 Scotiabank Concacaf League Preliminary Round, which kicks off for the Canalero club next Thursday, August 1 versus Alianza of El Salvador in San Salvador.
For San Francisco, it has been a long wait for the start of the season. The players gathered back on June 17 to begin their preparation for the 2019 Apertura and SCL under the watchful eye of Head Coach Gonzalo Soto.
The club got its first taste of action last Sunday, July 14 with a friendly against Hallelujah FC, which ended in a hard-fought 0-0 draw, showing that the defensive work put in during preseason is already paying dividends.
Four days later, San Francisco fell 2-0 in a tough contest with Sporting San Miguelito.
Yet with the 2019 Apertura opener set for Sunday, July 28 against Tauro and its SCL debut coming four days later, the San Francisco players understand the important task that awaits them in Concacaf play.
“We know what we are working for and play for, which is an important Concacaf tournament,” said FW Cristian Zuniga via the club’s Twitter account last week. “We hope to do a good job and qualify for the next round.”
“We hope to face our international tournament in the best way possible,” added MF Jhamal Rodriguez. “We know it’s an important competition and we hope to start it off on the right foot,” concluded Rodriguez.
Following the first leg on August 1, San Francisco will return home to the Estadio Agustin Sanchez in La Chorrea to play the second leg.
