SAN JOSE, Costa Rica -- Kenny Cunningham scored in the 86th minute to give Santos de Guapiles a 1-0 win over Arabe Unido and a berth in the 2017 Scotiabank CONCACAF League final on Thursday night at the Estadio Nacional.
Santos won the semifinal series by the same score after the teams played to a goalless draw in the first leg last week in Panama.
The Costa Rican side will meet Olimpia, winner of its semifinal series with Plaza Amador (agg: 8-2), in next month’s two-legged final. The eventual champion will also earn a spot in the 2018 Scotiabank CONCACAF Champions League.
Cunningham scored his second goal of the competition, running onto a long free kick from the back. The ball bounced once in the penalty area and he managed to get to it just before goalkeeper Miguel Lloyd, jabbing home from 12-yards out.
Santos goalkeeper Francisco Alejandro Gomez recorded the club’s fourth straight shutout in the competition on the strength of several outstanding saves.
Gomez parried Renan Addles' attempt from the left side at the far post in the 18th minute. Off the ensuing corner kick, Rolando Algandona drilled a shot from just outside the penalty area, forcing Gomez to make a diving stop.
He also produced a kick save on Carlos Small's close-range shot in the 77th minute.
