SAN JOSE, Costa Rica – Costa Rican side Deportivo Saprissa scored a pair of second half goals to defeat Belmopan Bandits of Belize 3-1 in the second leg of their 2019 Scotiabank Concacaf League Preliminary Round series on Wednesday night at the Estadio Ricardo Saprissa Ayma in San Jose, Costa Rica.
Wednesday night’s result, combined with last week’s 3-1 triumph in Belize, earns the Ticos a 6-2 victory on aggregate and a spot in the next round of the 2019 SCL.
Belmopan looked to start quickly in hopes of getting back into the tie and Hector Hernandez did just that with a goal in the 38’ to hand the visitors from Belize a 1-0 lead.
The Monstruo Morado would respond in the second half though, as Jonathan Martinez pulled the hosts level 1-1 in the 54’ to restore the two-goal lead on aggregate.
Cristian Bolanos and Manfred Ugalde would then complete the comeback with goals in the 83’ and 90+3’, respectively, to seal Saprissa’s passage to the quarterfinals, where it will meet El Salvador’s Aguila.
