Moreira strike cements Motagua’s passage to SCL quarterfinals

BELMOPAN, Belize – Motagua has advanced to the 2018 Scotiabank CONCACAF League quarterfinals 3-0 on aggregate versus Belmopan Bandits following a 1-0 victory on Tuesday night in their Round of 16 second leg at the Isidoro Beaton Stadium in Belmopan, Belize.

 

Roberto Moreira tallied the game’s lone goal in the 56th minute when he collected a pass between two Bandits defenders and fired in a right-footed shot.

 

It was Moreira’s second goal with the Hondurans since joining the club during the summer transfer window. The Paraguayan previously scored in Motagua’s 1-0 win over Platense in Honduras’s Liga Nacional action on July 29.

 

Motagua will now face the winner of the Santos de Guapiles-Portmore United tie, which Portmore United leads 2-1.

 

The defeat marks the second straight season in which Belmopan Bandits has been eliminated in the first round of the 2018 SCL.
