SAN SALVADOR, El Salvador – A spectacular 88th minute goal from Faber Gil earned Arabe Unido a massive 1-0 away victory over CD FAS in the first leg of their 2018 Scotiabank Concacaf League quarterfinal at the Cuscatlan Stadium in San Salvador, El Salvador.
The home side started strong and had a trio of chances in the first half to open the scoring, including a Guillermo Stradella effort that hit the post. But the Arabe Unido defense, led by GK Miguel Lloyd and DF Roberto Chen, stood firm throughout.
Dominican Republic international Lloyd then produced the save of the night with a sensational stop from an Irvin Herrea shot in the second minute of the second half.
The Expreso Azul attack would fire up late and a deflected ball that spun up in the air fell perfectly for Gil to hammer in with a bicycle kick to give the Panamanians the triumph.
The two teams will meet again next week in the second leg in Panama’s Rommel Fernandez Stadium.
