PANAMA CITY, Panama – Tauro fended off Walter Ferretti 3-1 on Thursday night in the first leg of their 2018 Scotiabank Concacaf League quarterfinal at the Estadio Rommel Fernandez Stadium in Panama City, Panama.
Jesus Gonzalez gave the Panamanians a dream 1-0 start in the 12th minute, but the Nicaraguan side showed its resilience and equalized through Bruno De Morais’s penalty conversion in the 22nd minute after Rigoberto Nino brought down Ervin Aguirre in the area.
The advantage went back Tauro’s way in the 32nd minute when Walter Ferretti’s Rafael De Almeida was red-carded, and 11 minutes later Armando Polo took advantage by poking in a loose ball for a 2-1 lead
With the extra man, Tauro increased its lead in the 84th minute when Edwin Aguilar scored from the penalty spot after a Walter Ferretti handball in the area.
The two teams will meet in the second leg next Thursday in Alajuela, Costa Rica.
