SCL Panama: In-form Stephens keys Chorrillo FC win

PANAMA CITY, Panama – Alfredo Stephens converted a penalty kick in the second half and Chorrillo FC earned a 1-0 win over visiting CA Independiente on Saturday at the Estadio Maracana.

With the result, the Fiebre Amarilla jumped out to fourth place in the 2017 Panamanian Apertura standings and is unbeaten in its last three outings following a season opening 3-0 loss at Plaza Amador.

After Manuel Torres was whistled for a handball, Stephens beat goalkeeper Kevin Melgar from the spot in the 70th minute and extended his scoring streak to three consecutive games for a team-best three goals.

Chorrillo FC returns to action on Wednesday night, when it takes a 1-0 lead into the second leg of its 2017 Scotiabank CONCACAF League Round of 16 series against host Honduras Progreso in San Pedro Sula, Honduras.
