SAN JOSE, Costa Rica – The 2019 Scotiabank Concacaf League swings back into action on Tuesday with the start of the quarterfinals as Deportivo Saprissa of Costa Rica host Club Atletico Independiente of Panama in the first leg at the Estadio Ricardo Saprissa Ayma in San Jose, Costa Rica.
The Tico outfit arrives into the encounter in excellent form since eliminating Aguila of El Salvador in the Round of 16.
Saprissa are undefeated in their last five matches in the Costa Rican Apertura, with four wins and 16 goals scored in that time.
They have been just as impressive in the 2019 SCL, scoring eight goals with 17-year-old Manfred Ugalde leading the way with three goals and veteran Johan Venegas with two goals tallied.
With just three goals allowed in the last four matches in Panama’s Apertura, CAI will also look to deliver a similarly strong defensive performance in the SCL.
CAI overcame a stiff challenge from SV Robinhood of Suriname in the previous round, winning 3-2 on aggregate and will be relying on the playmaking of Jorman Aguilar and the goalscoring of the likes of Jose Fajardo and Abdiel Ayarza to earn a key result away from home.
