LEONORA, Guyana – Devon Millington scored in the second half and Slingerz FC earned a 1-0 victory over Alpha United to be crowned the overall champion of the inaugural Guyana Stag Elite League on Sunday night at the National Track and Field Facility.

Alpha had prevailed over Genesis phase winner Slingerz a week earlier at the same venue, 3-0 on penalty kicks, after their Finale phase final ended in a scoreless draw.

The game’s only goal came in the 73rd minute off the boot of substitute Millington, who entered the pitch 15 minutes earlier for Domini Garnett.

Both Slingerz FC – winner of its first national league championship -- and Alpha United will represent Guyana in the 2017 CFU Club Championship, the Caribbean’s qualifying competition for the 2017/18 Scotiabank CONCACAF Champions League.
