SAN NICOLAS DE LOS GARZA, Mexico – A crucial 2016/17 Scotiabank CONCACAF Champions League clash at Plaza Amador on September 28 awaits Tigres, but the Mexican power will first look to take care of other matters Saturday against visiting Cruz Azul.

UANL occupies the top spot in the Liga MX table with 6W-4D-0L record and has a 12-match unbeaten streak in all competitions.

Defender Jorge Torres Nilo says that the club is keen to remain on a roll.

“For us, the match that matters the most is the Cruz Azul one,” stressed the 28-year-old. “What happened in the past stays there and each match that we have in front of us is going to be the most important one, and now it is Cruz Azul.

“Simply, we want to win. We respect the opposing team, but the truth is that we are going to go out to do what we know to take home the win.”

Torres Nilo credits a good work ethic as being the foundation of Tigres’ success in both Liga MX and the SCCL.

“Very good things have been done,” he commented. “I think in general terms the team has managed to do very well what each person knows. As individuals, as players, we don’t try to do more or less. With humility, we know that we all need each other and we have gone match to match. Things have gone our way based on the work, the perseverance and the humility that each one of us shows both on and off the field.”

Nevertheless, Torres Nilo knows that there is still room for improvement.

“I think there are always things to improve,” finished the Mexico international. “The results are coming through for us. The team is playing well, but there are always things to improve. The truth is that we know what we have to improve. We are going to go about doing it effectively on the field and I think Tigres still has much to give.”
