ZUAZUA, Mexico – Tigres announced that defender Israel Jimenez underwent surgery Friday for a left knee injury that could keep up out of action for seven months.
The 27-year-old, whose entire professional career -- except for a 2014 loan to Club Tijuana -- has been spent with the Liga MX power, tore his ACL during a training session on Tuesday.
Jimenez appeared in nine Liga MX Apertura games and Scotiabank CONCACAF Champions League encounters this season.
On Tuesday, Tigres needs only a draw against visiting Herediano to secure a berth in the SCCL quarterfinals.
