MIAMI – CONCACAF announced Thursday the schedule for the 2016/17 Scotiabank CONCACAF Champions League final to be played between Mexican sides Tigres and Pachuca on April 18 and 26.
Tigres confirmed its second straight trip to the decider after beating host Vancouver Whitecaps FC late Wednesday evening, 2-1, to capture their semifinal series, 4-1 on aggregate.
On Tuesday, Pachuca put itself in position to claim a fifth CONCACAF club crown with a 3-1 win over visiting FC Dallas, overturning a 2-1 deficit from the first leg.
The final, first leg will be played on Tuesday, April 18, when Tigres welcomes the Tuzos to the Estadio Universitario in San Nicolas de los Garza.
On Wednesday, April 26, the champion will be decided with UANL – the 2015/16 runner-up – traveling to Pachuca’s Estadio Hidalgo in Pachuca.
In addition to earning CONCACAF's prized ticket to the 2017 FIFA Club World Cup in the United Arab Emirates, the winner will take home $500,000 from the total pool of $1.2 in prize money. The other three semifinalists will also receive cash prizes, representing an important investment in the Confederation’s club championship and reward for the tournament's most successful participants.
CONCACAF’s total investment, including prize money, travel stipends and other club payouts in the 2016/17 edition of the Champions League will come to over $5.5 million.
