#4: Motagua 3-2 Portmore United
This quarterfinal first leg between Motagua of Honduras and Jamaica’s Portmore United felt like a rollercoaster ride.
Playing in front of the home fans in Tegucigalpa, Motagua roared to an early 2-0 lead.
It began with a long-range shot from Juan Pablo Montes deflecting into the net in the 6’, which was then followed by Rubilio Castillo following up his own blocked shot with a goal in the 24’.
The visitors from the Caribbean kept their poise though and mounted a furious second half comeback.
Ricardo Morris was at the right place and at the right time to sweep in a Javon East shot off the post to cut the deficit to 2-1 in the 67’.
East then brought his side level 2-2 in the 81’ with an exquisite back-heeled shot off a cross from the right.
Yet just when it looked as if Portmore United would return home with a draw, Motagua sent the Estadio Nacional into pandemonium with a last-gasp winning goal.
Montes scored his second of the night by flying to the back post to head in a free kick in the 94’, earning the Hondurans the dramatic victory.
