VANCOUVER, Canada -- Vancouver Whitecaps FC announced Tuesday that midfielder Deybi Flores has been loaned to Honduran side Motagua through December 2016.
“Deybi is a bright young talent,” said Whitecaps head coach Carl Robinson. “He has a lot of potential, but he needs to be playing games. When the opportunity for Deybi became available to return to Motagua on loan, all parties believed that this was the best arrangement for his development.”
Prior to joining Vancouver in February 2015, Flores spent two years with Motagua, starting 16 of 21 appearances. During that time, he helped the Tegucigalpa-based win the 2014 Honduran Apertura.
Flores has made eight total appearances for Western Conference-leading Whitecaps FC 2 in the USL this season, recording one assist. Additionally, the 20-year-old has made one start for the club’s MLS team, featuring in the Week 2 loss to Sporting Kansas City.
Last year, Flores played in 15 matches across all competitions, including two appearances in the Amway Canadian Championship and all four Scotiabank CONCACAF Champions League outings.
At the international level, Flores earned first senior international cap last December, playing 22 minutes for Honduras in a 2-0 friendly win over visiting Cuba in Juticalpa.
The 5-foot-11 midfielder has also represented the Catrachos at the FIFA U-20 World Cup and CONCACAF Under-20 Championship in 2015, the 2014 Central American and Caribbean Games, and the 2013 CONCACAF Under-17 Championship.
