COUVA, Trinidad & Tobago – DirecTV W Connection announced Wednesday that forward Shahdon Winchester is leaving the club to link up with former teammate Jomal Williams at Mexican Ascenso side Murcielagos.
The 24-year-old climbed up the W Connection youth ranks, spending parts of the last seven years as a professional with the club. He made his senior debut in a Scotiabank CONCACAF Champions League game at Honduras’ Real España on August 21, 2009, and has enjoyed multiple loan spells FF Jaro in Finland, where he scored 17 goals in 54 league games.
Winchester and Williams, 22, became an exciting tandem for the Savonetta Boys during the 2015/16 season, which yielded titles in the First Citizens Cup Championship and the Toyota Classic Championship.
Williams, who was transferred to Murcielagos on June 9, struck for 21 goals in all competitions and scored for Trinidad & Tobago in recent international friendlies against Uruguay and China. Winchester netted nine times in 20 league matches
“My on and off field relationship with teammate Jomal Williams will have a massive impact because of the experiences we shared both at WCFC and with the national team,” said Winchester. “Because of this I strongly believe it will be beneficial to Murcielagos.”
Both join fellow Trinidad & Tobago international Yohance Marshall, who joined Murcielagos after the 2015 CONCACAF Gold Cup.
W Connection will be making its fifth appearance in the SCCL this year, facing Honduras Progreso and Pumas in Group A.
