ESTELI, Nicaragua – Walter Ferretti and visiting Plaza Amador played to a 0-0 draw in the first leg of their 2017 Scotiabank CONCACAF League quarterfinal series on Tuesday night at the Estadio Independencia.
The defenses for both sides registered second straight shutouts in the competition. Neither was overly tested, however, in an encounter that generated only a handful of shots on goal.
Denis Espinoza was forced to dive left in the 69th minute to corral a left-footed effort by Plaza Amador’s Francisco Bethancourt from 19-yards out.
Plaza goalkeeper Eric Hughes was rarely called upon, but he did make a save at the left post on an attempt off a free kick that appeared to be going wide.
The second leg will be played on August 24 at the Estadio Rommel Fernandez in Panama City, Panama.
