MIAMI, Florida – A Caribbean clash is on the docket this Thursday in the 2020 Scotiabank Concacaf League as Waterhouse of Jamaica welcome in Arcahaie of Haiti in the Round of 16 at Independence Park in Kingston, Jamaica.
Due to the withdrawal of Belizean side Verdes from the Preliminary Round, Arcahaie’s SCL debut will come in this Round of 16 fixture.
Arcahaie qualified for the SCL after posting a third-place finish in the group stage of the 2020 Concacaf Caribbean Club Championship and will be participating in a Concacaf tournament for the first time.
Arcahaie are just the second Haitian club to qualify for the SCL, following in the footsteps of AS Capoise in 2019 and will be counting on the likes of GK Guerry Romondt to provide a steady hand in goal, while FW Marc Beldor showed in the CCCC in his club’s 1-0 win over Portmore United that he knows how to finish in front of net.
Waterhouse will also be making their 2020 SCL debut, but have tournament experience under their belts after appearing in the 2019 edition.
The Jamaican side stunned 2018 SCL champions Herediano of Costa Rica in the Round of 16, winning a penalty shootout before being eliminated by Motagua of Honduras in the quarterfinals.
Waterhouse secured their spot in the 2020 edition thanks to having the second-best record in the group stage of the 2020 CCCC, including a 3-0 win over Haitian side Don Bosco.
Some familiar names are sure to be on the Waterhouse team sheet at kick-off, with the always dangerous Colorado Murray in attack, plus Andre Fletcher, who scored Waterhouse’s lone goal in the 2019 SCL.
Thursday’s match marks the second ever all-Caribbean meeting in the SCL, with last season’s Preliminary Round contest between AS Capoise and Robinhood of Suriname being the first.
Kick-off is scheduled for 6 PM ET and can be seen via TSN.ca/TSN App (Canada), TUDN (USA-Spanish), FS1 (USA-English), ESPN 2 (Central America) and Fox Sports 2 (Mexico).
