Chirinos named Scotiabank CONCACAF League Golden Ball winner
SAN JOSE, Costa Rica – A series of outstanding performances throughout the inaugural Scotiabank CONCACAF Champions League -- including a goal in Thursday’s final, second-leg 1-0 win over host Santos de Guapiles -- earned Olimpia’s Michael Chirinos the Scotiabank CONCACAF League Golden Ball award.
The 22-year-old midfielder appeared in all eight games during the Leones’ run to the inaugural title, netting three goals and registering one assist.
Earlier in the day, Chirinos was called up to Honduras for next month’s intercontinental playoff against Australia with a place in the 2018 FIFA World Cup at stake.
After the SCL final ended 1-1 on aggregate, Olimpia captured the title 4-1 on penalty kicks.
