One of El Salvador’s most successful clubs, Aguila adds another chapter to its history by participating in the first-ever Scotiabank CONCACAF League. It secured a place in the competition by being the non-champion with the second best aggregate record in the 2016/17 season.
Aguila, which earned the last of its 15 Salvadoran titles in the 2012 Clausura, captured its only CONCACAF club title by overcoming Suriname’s Robinhood in the 1976 final (agg: 8-3).
In its only Scotiabank CONCACAF Champions League appearance, Aguila went 0W-0D-4L (1GF, 17GA). Yaikel Perez (37’) scored the only goal in a 1-5 away loss v Toronto FC on August 1, 2012.
Three players were on El Salvador’s roster for the 2017 CONCACAF Gold Cup: Benji Villalobos (goalkeeper), as well as Victor Garcia and Edwin Sanchez (midfielders).
