Futbol Club Motagua classified to the SCL 2018 as a runner-up in the 2017-2018 Apertura and Clausura.
Founded on August 29, 1928, “El Ciclón Azul” is one of the most laurated teams in Honduras where Futbol Club Motagua has won 15 national championships, one Supercopa de Honduras (2017), and one cup (1968). In 2007, Futbol Club Motagua won Torneo de Clubes de la Unión Centroamericana de Fútbol, UNCAF.
The blue eagles will participate for their first time in the SCL, however they have already participated in 4 Scotiabank Concacaf Champions League editions in 2010-11, 2011-12, 2015-16 y 2018.
In 2018 SCCL, the team played against Xolos de Tijuana from Liga MX losing the global series 2-1 in rounds of 16.
Managed by the Argenitnian Diego Martín Vázquez, Motagua has among its players the striker Róman Rublio Castillo who was the top scorer of the team in Apertura and Clausura scoring 23 goals in 39 matches while his teammate, Walter Martínez, scored 8 goals in 35 matches.
