In the history of Nicaraguan football, two teams have dominated its landscape in the last 10-plus years: Real Esteli and Walter Ferretti.
In fact, those are the only two teams from Nicaragua that have ever participated in a Concacaf tournament.
That is, until now.
In the 2019 Scotiabank Concacaf League, Managua FC will become the third Nicaraguan club to appear in one of Concacaf’s two major tournaments by virtue of being the 2018 Nicaraguan Apertura champions and owning the best aggregate record among Nicaragua’s two 2019 Clausura finalists (Real Esteli).
For a club founded in 2006, reaching the SCL is a remarkable achievement. Leading the way for the Pinolero outfit is Venezuelan FW Edwin Morillo, who has a jaw-dropping 26 goals since last September.
Managua will be hoping that Morillo’s goal-scoring heroics will be on full display when the SCL Round of 16 kicks off in August.
